WHAT IS A TEAM?

A team is a group of caring people with the common purpose to raise money and awareness for ACT and of HIV/AIDS while having fun in the process. Historically, teams have come from all sectors of our community: corporations, small businesses, community organizations, schools and faith groups. Alternatively, gather a group of your family and/or friends with your own personal reasons for walking. Last year, teams accounted for close to 40% of the total funds raised.

WHO IS THE TEAM LEADER?

The Team Leader participates, motivates and celebrates! Team Leaders are critical to the spirit and success of this event. The GREAT news is you don’t need any previous experience to do this job – you just need enthusiasm.

The Team Leader assembles their team of walkers, discusses fundraising strategies and goals, looks for ways to reward the team as goals are met, and leads the way towards a successful September 14th!

Our website will soon have everything you will need to spearhead your team. Including a simple online registration process, and a Team Leader section with fundraising information and ideas, local event details, and answers to just about every question you’ll have about this great event.

WHERE TO BEGIN...

It’s time to recruit enthusiastic Walkers for this important and worthy cause. Your team can be as big or as small as you want – from you and a friend, to as many people as you can register.

Get the word out

  • Tell everyone you know about the event and then follow up with them
  • Make announcements at staff, group, neighborhood and faith group meetings
  • Put up posters from your Leader Kit (coming soon) in well-travelled areas
  • Host a team information session – show the AIDS WALK FOR LIFE PowerPoint recruitment presentation and tell people why ACT needs their help
  • Encourage team members to invite a family member, friend, neighbour or co-worker to walk
  • Ask your department head, coach or organization leader to join your team or ask for their help to motivate and encourage others to participate
  • Place an article in your organization’s newsletter or send a message over your company’s intranet
  • Mention the walk on your voicemail and indicate how people can participate
  • Posting a “goal-o-metre” sheet that indicates your team goal and tracks the group’s progress is a very effective way of letting your team monitor and chart their progress
